Welcome to the Quadrupol Whistle project, an experimental acoustic whistle with four parallel channels, designed to explore fluid dynamics and geometric resonance.
Thanks to its characteristic stepped rear development, each internal chamber has a different length. This allows for the simultaneous generation of four distinct frequencies/notes with a single airflow, creating a unique harmonic chord and a controlled acoustic interference pattern.
However, it can also be used by utilizing a single channel for greater sound coherence.
🛠️ Design Features
- Quadrupolar Geometry: 4 independent channels with calibrated dividing septa to optimize incoming laminar flow.
- Stepped Chambers (Stepped Design): The geometric progression varies the wavelength of each chamber, defining the spectrum of resonant frequencies.
- Optimized for 3D Printing: Designed to be printed without internal supports, keeping the air channels perfectly clean for maximum acoustic performance.
🖨️ Printing Tips (Print Settings)
To achieve maximum acoustic quality and enhance the aesthetic of the model, I recommend using metallic filaments (such as PLA Bronze or PLA Silk) and follow these guidelines:
- Layer Height: between 0.12 mm and 0.20 mm (thinner layers ensure smoother internal walls, which are crucial for airflow).
- Wall Loops: At least 3 or 4 to ensure maximum density and acoustic insulation of the chambers.
- Infill: 20% - 30% (a slightly higher infill than normal provides structural rigidity and improves sound resonance).
- Supports: No (the model is optimized to print the upper bridges of the channels without the need for supports).
- Orientation: Place the object flat on the build plate (the largest flat base).
🧪 Share Your Make!
If you print it, leave a comment and a rating! I am curious to see your versions printed with different materials (PLA, PETG, ABS, or even Resin) and to know what sound your filament combination produces.
