Description

Summary

This model is my attempt to design the AGM-69A Short Range Attack Missile that Dan Sexton magnificently modeled from a wire frame drawing I had given him that I drew up. His design is here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4492707.
I have trouble printing because the fins are very thin when scaled down to printing size. The leading edges of the fins taper to a sharp edge and gave me printing issues as well. This new design is very true to my line drawing but I decided to design the fins to have a thicker, flat surface with no taper. I scaled this design to 7 inches tall, the smallest I could slice and have the fins print well. Stand the model up on it's tail, no supports are needed and even though it is relatively narrow for its height, I did not need a brim but you may prefer to use one. I'm going to work on a multicolor version with separate parts for the various colors.

How I Designed This

I originally drew this up a long time ago using AutoCAD in a 3D environment as circles, lines, etc. Because of the method I used it was impossible to convert to a true 3D model so I had to revisit it to create 3D shapes from the various parts (missile body, nose cone, top raceway, fins, and fin fairings in the drawing. Once I did this, I imported it into Fusion 360 to join the parts into one body and export as an STL file.
