Hard Drive Enclosure for 2.5" 15mm Drives
Print Profile(1)

Description
So I could not find an external HDD enclosure for sale that definitively fit drives that are 15mm thick, so I decided to put in the effort of making my own enclosure! This enclosure was specially made to fit a 2.5 inch drive that is 15mm tall. These drives are usually thicker due to them having a larger storage capacity. The drive I am using is a 5TB HDD, so it is much thicker than an average 2.5" drive. I made the enclosure to be compatible with the insignia brand SATA to USB C adapter, but I also included a blank top that will allow you to import the model to tinkercad and cut out the exact size of the SATA adapter that you are using. In order for this to work you will need:
- Eight M3 x 6mm screws - To use the TPU feet, you'll need M3 screws with a “Socket cap”, but you can use more low profile screws for the sides if you'd prefer to.
- A SATA to USB C or USB A Converter, I recommend getting the adapter I got from best buy, it only costs $12. This is the adapter I used for this model
- TPU Filament for the feet of the drive. These will go on top of the M3 screw socket caps that will be on the bottom of the enclosure.
- And I would recommend using ABS or PETG for the enclosure if you intend on using your hard drive for heavy/continuous work loads. I plan on using mine for small and quick transfers, so PLA is safe for my use case.
There is a blank version of the top part of the Enclosure, so you can open tinker cad or a program of your choice to make a cut out of the adapter you are wanting to use. Measure the L x W of the adapter's SATA connector and cut that from the blank enclosure top. Align the cut properly so it will be able to plug in all the way.
I hope you guys find this stylish and useful! I'd love to see your makes, and of course boosts are always appreciated!
