The Panzer III Ausf.G saw significant service in the North African Campaign (DAK – Deutsches Afrikakorps), where its mobility, reliability, and balanced design suited desert warfare conditions. Compared to earlier Ausf. E/F models, the Ausf.G has new improved cylindrical cupola with better vision blocks, the easiest identification feature. The Ausf.G Still uses 5 cm KwK 38 L/42 gun, with shorter barrel than later L/60 variants, the important visual distinction to later Panzer III versions.

The Panzer III Ausf.G was widely deployed in the North African Campaign (Deutsches Afrikakorps, DAK). Its high reliability, good mobility, and suitability for desert warfare made it one of the key armaments of the German armored forces in North Africa. The newly added improved cylindrical cupola on the G model is the most critical external feature for distinguishing the G model from earlier models (E/F). The main gun still used a shorter 50mm KwK 38 L/42 barrel, which is also how to visually distinguish the G model from later Panzer III models equipped with the L/60 gun.
