Description
The phrase has become one of Max Verstappen's trademarks
He first uttered it iconically after overtaking Sebastian Vettel on the first lap of the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix. The original team radio was
"Simply... simply lovely!"
Since then, Verstappen has often used it after pole positions, victories, or particularly successful laps. On some occasions, the variant has been
"Simply lovely!"
or, with even more emphasis
"Simply fucking lovely!" (in radio communications not fully broadcast on TV due to the language)
The expression has become so famous that
- it has been repeated dozens of times in his post-race radio messages
- it was playfully imitated by Lando Norris after his victory at Zandvoort in 2024 ("Uh huh... simply lovely, huh?")
- Verstappen has even trademarked it for use on his merchandise
The "classic" and most recognizable version therefore remains
"Simply... simply lovely!"
