Description
Elrond belongs to one of the most unique lineages in Middle-earth : he is a half-elf, son of Eärendil and Elwing. His blood combines the three great races of Arda: elves, men, and maiar (like wizards) . His father, Eärendil , was the mariner who traveled to the West and pleaded with the Valar for their help against Morgoth during the First Age. His mother, Elwing , was descended from Lúthien and Beren , bearers of the Silmaril.
After the fall of Gondolin and Doriath in the First Age, Elrond and his brother Elros were orphaned and captured by the sons of Fëanor. However, Maedhros and Maglor, two of the brothers, raised them with compassion, which profoundly marked Elrond.
At a crucial moment, both Elrond and Elros had to choose between the immortality of elves or the mortality of men. While Elros chose human life and became the first king of Númenor, Elrond opted to remain an elf and dedicate his life to protecting and preserving the legacy of the elves in Middle-earth.
