Warning

This is a beta project. That means things will break, some geometry is still being refined, and the documentation, while thorough, is still a work in progress. Don’t expect a plug-and-play kit that works perfectly out of the box.

Do not build this project unless you:

  • Enjoy Hobby RC
  • Enjoy 3D Printing
  • Have built RC kits before
  • Have a drawer (or two) of spare RC parts lying around
  • Are comfortable with reprinting parts, tweaking parts, and troubleshooting

What is Oscar SCT?

Oscar is my attempt at creating a hobby-grade style 1:10 Scale, 2WD Short Course Truck. It is compatible with most off-the-shelf Short Course Truck bodies and wheels. It is designed to use standard RC electronics for the motor, battery, and steering servo.

What you’ll need

  • Various hardware (screws, nuts, bearings, etc.) - please consult the User Manual for a complete list.
  • Electronics:
    • Motor (540/3650/3665 size): I used: HobbyWing EZRUN 3665 3200kv brushless motor.
    • ESC (appropriate for your motor): I used: HobbyWing EZRUN MAX10 G2.
    • Battery (appropriate for your motor and ESC): I used: CNHL 2s Shorty Lipo Battery 4900mAh
    • Servo: I used: a generic 30KG digital servo from Amazon.
    • RX/TX: I used: Radiolink RC4GS V3
  • Shocks (~80mm): I used: 1/10 80mm RC Oil filled Shock Absorbers kit for Tamiya TRX4 Axial SCX10
  • Short Course Truck Body: I used: JConcepts Illuzion Ford Raptor SVT SCT-R
  • Short Course Truck Wheel/Tires (12mm hex drive): I used: generic 2.2" SCT wheels and tires from Amazon.
  • Body Clips
  • Double-sided tape or Velcro for mounting electronics
  • Velcro straps for securing battery to battery tray: I used: Apex 16mm x 300mm Straps

Filament Choices

I used a combination of PLA, PETG, and “TPU for AMS” for this model. CC3D 72D Flexible TPU Filament is a good alternative to “TPU for AMS”. DO NOT use a soft TPU filament.

In all of my photos: Light Grey is PLA, Dark Grey is PETG, and White is TPU.

Using PETG for the gears works well, but you can upgrade to PAHT-CF if you want to make the gears more durable.
