Description

Henning over at Printables designed a great cover for the Sofabaton X2, titled “Cover SofaBaton X2”.   His model is meant to be printed with TPU.  I printed it and was impressed with his design and the functionality.  I wanted to try to modify his design to accommodate the following….

  • A hard case, not TPU, which presents an issue of how to get the remote inside

    • My current solution was to cut his design in half so the remote could be inserted

  • Add some “grip” to the exterior surface only, since I’m clumsy and am sometimes half asleep when watching TV and often drop the damn thing

  • Allow me to print in OBNOXOUSLY loud colors so I can find the thing buried in my bed or sofa

So I did the following modifications to Henning’s great model

  • Enlarged it slightly to allow the remote to fit in the harder PLA (Not TPU)

  • Did a slice/cut of Henning’s model so the Sofabaton X2 can be slipped in

  • Learned how to use the “fuzzy surface” options in Bambu Studio to provide a grip texture to the exterior

It came out well for my use.  I’m also adding the following info.

  • The X2 with this case will NOT fit in the X2 docking station

    • You can move the position of the slice just a bit, making the bottom part longer by 1cm and the upper part shorter buy 1cm.  This will allow you to remove/slide the bottom portion off and set in the docking station.  I’m happy with the current design and decided not to do this

  • I used a deburring tool to slightly enlarge the USB socket hole to accommodate the alignment and size of my USB C cable.

  • I drilled 2 holes on the side and attached a wrist lanyard so I can have a beer, be half asleep and still not lose my remote!

  • You can fiddle with the “fuzzy exterior surface settings to dial in the texture you want

Good luck and feel free to share your modifications!
