This is by far the most exciting model I have made to date - a “Plant Watering System” powered by an ESP32 board, a DS3231 real time clock, two mini water pumps and 1.500 lines of Arduino code! This is really helpful when you want to keep your plants healthy, but do not have time to do the daily watering in case your are travelling or on vacation - or just lazy…🏌️☀️

 

📌 Features:

  • Two separately programmable water pumps
  • Individual watering schedules for each weekday (Monday to Sunday) and for each water pump
  • Customizable watering duration for each pump
  • Manual watering mode 
  • Saves all settings to the EEPROM of the ESP32 board to keep data when device is disconnected from power
  • Uses DS3231 RTC module to keep track of time/date to trigger the pumps at the right time 
  • Easy navigation and configuraton via rotary encoder with push button (to enter menus and make settings) and secondary push button (to return from menus)
  • Automatic screen dimming (idle timer can be configured)

🛒 What components do I need to make this project?

  • 3D printed parts (housing using PLA filament, watering spikes and connectors using PETG filament)
  • Keyestudio ESP3232-WROOM-32 Development Board
  • 2,4 inch EC11 LCD display with rotary encoder and secondary push button (320x240 pixels)
  • DS3231 real time clock module with backup battery (board has three holes for screw fixing)
  • 2x mini water pumps (3v)
  • Silicon hose 3mm inner diameter, 5mm outer diameter. Purchase whatever length you require, I bought a 5m long hose and cut it to individual lengths as per my needs.
  • 2x 3v relay power switches
  • Sufficient number of jumper wires
  • 15x M2.5 screws to attach the ESP32 baord, the relays and the DS3231 RTC mdoule to the housing
  • 10x M3 screws to attach the LCD display, the display cover and to fixate the back of the housing
  • Hot glue to fix the water pumps to the housing
  • USB-C cable to connect the ESP32 board to your PC
  • 4x self-adhesive rubber feet to be attached to the bottom of the housing
  • Soldering iron to connect the pin bridge to the LCD display
  • In case you are using the diver to keep the silicon hose underwater in your water tank, fill some weight (e.g. small pebbles, metal balls) into the container of the diver.

All items can be found at the well known Chinese internet shops.

 

Important: This device is suitable for indoor usage only! Make sure that the silicon hoses are connected tightly to the water pumps to avoid unwanted water leakage (use mini zip ties if need be). Always use clean water with not dirt in it, otherwise you will clog the water pumps.
