In Alan Parker’s 1987 neo-noir psychological horror film Angel Heart, Lisa Bonet delivers a fierce, breakout performance as Epiphany Proudfoot, a fierce and mysterious 17-year-old voodoo priestess living in the Louisiana bayou.

The role was a massive, deliberate departure from her clean-cut, mainstream image as Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show. Bonet brings a raw, hypnotic intensity to the film's dark, occult atmosphere, culminating in a notoriously visceral, blood-soaked sex scene with Mickey Rourke's character, Harry Angel. Her performance earned critical acclaim and a Saturn Award nomination, successfully cementing her transition into mature, complex cinema despite the intense media controversy it sparked at the time.
