Description

Aesthetic 3D Printed Floor Lamp with Wooden Dowel Rods

This is an aesthetic and easy-to-build floor lamp project that combines 3D printed connector parts with standard round wooden dowel rods. The design is made to fit many different interiors, depending on the filament color, wood finish, and lamp shade you choose.

The lamp is designed to use widely available 28 mm round wooden dowel rods, commonly found in Europe. The wooden rods can be left natural, stained, oiled, varnished, or painted to match your interior style.

Structure and Stability

The legs are angled at 18 degrees to create a more stable base. The middle connector can be secured with M3 or M3.5 wood screws, or similar small screws. These screws help lock the structure firmly in place and reduce movement during use.

The upper connector does not require screws. It is designed so that the weight of the lamp helps lock the arm in position. This also makes it possible to adjust the lamp’s reach and height by changing the position of the upper wooden dowel rod.

Optional bottom feet can also be printed. You can attach non-slip material, felt pads, rubber pads, or similar material to the bottom feet to improve stability and protect the floor from scratches.

Cord and Lamp Shade

For my version, I used an IKEA STRÅLA 4 m cord with an E14 bulb socket, but you can use any suitable cord, socket, and bulb of your choice.

The lamp shade is not included in this model and can be chosen separately. You can use compatible E14 or E27 hanging lamp shades available on MakerWorld, depending on the socket you use. In the future, you may also find different compatible lamp shade designs on my profile.

For safety, I recommend using a low-heat LED bulb and certified electrical components. Make sure the cord, socket, and bulb are properly secured and do not touch any hot or moving parts.

Printing Information

Boost Me (for free)

If you like this lamp and appreciate the time spent designing, testing, and improving it, a Boost would really help support future versions and new lamp shade designs. Your feedback and makes are also very welcome!

Without the lamp shade, the printed parts use approximately 180 g of filament and take around 5–6 hours to print. I printed my prototype in PLA, but PETG or other stronger materials can also be used if you want a more durable and rigid lamp structure.

Use enough walls and infill to make the connector parts strong. Since this is a functional interior object, please check before use that all joints are tight, the legs are stable, and the lamp does not wobble.

Feedback and Future Improvements

I would really appreciate your feedback, photos, and suggestions. Let me know in the comments what wooden dowel rod sizes you would like me to support in the future, for example 25 mm, 30 mm, or other diameters. Feel free to suggest any improvements, extra parts, or lamp shade variations that would make this project better.
