Description
Replacement part for Muli cargo bike – End piece of the locking rod
Since this part of the locking rod on our Muli cargo bike went missing at some point, a replacement was needed. Initially, I searched for existing models but couldn't find a suitable or satisfactory solution. Therefore, I decided to design the component myself.
During development, there were several approaches. The original idea was to have the thread cut directly through the rod. However, after some tests, it turned out that this was not the best solution. Various attempts with different thread variants followed until the current design was finally created.
Construction
The model consists of a total of three parts:
- 2 plug-in parts
- 1 nut
The two main parts are plugged together to form the actual component.
The nut is not for connecting the two parts, but functions – as with the original part – as a locknut. It can be used after assembly to secure the position on the rod and prevent unintentional adjustment.
Depending on printer tolerances, it may be helpful to fully join the two plug-in parts with light hammer blows. If the connection is a bit too loose on your printer, a drop of superglue can also be used.
Print Notes
The model was successfully printed with:
- Bambu Lab PETG Basic
Due to the stress and area of use, I would recommend printing the part also from PETG or a similarly robust material.
The over-engineered version 😄

As befits a proper engineering project, I initially solved the problem much more complicated than necessary.
This resulted in a variant with additional components, threads, and a more elaborate design. However, before I could thoroughly test it, the much simpler version published here was already finished and worked to my satisfaction.
The more complex variant was therefore never fully tested and remained more of an interesting side project than a serious alternative. If anyone is technically curious and still wants to take a look, I can gladly provide the files upon request. 😄🔧🚲
Development
This model arose from a real need for a replacement part on our own Muli cargo bike. After several test prints and various design approaches, a solution was finally developed that is easy to print and assemble.
Perhaps this model will also help other Muli owners who are facing the same problem. 🚲😊
