Composite Deck Stair LED Mounting Bracket

I designed this bracket while installing LED strip lighting on my composite deck stairs.

Many composite stair nosings (Trex and similar brands) have a ribbed or hollow underside, leaving very little flat surface available for mounting the clips included with most LED strip light kits. In my case there was only about 3/4 inch (19 mm) of curved contact area, making the factory clips difficult or impossible to install securely.

This bracket provides a simple mounting point that attaches to the stair nose and securely supports LED strip lighting underneath the step.

Features

  • Designed for composite deck stair nosings
  • Works well with Trex-style ribbed stair nose profiles
  • Creates a solid mounting surface where none exists
  • Helps hide LED strip lighting from direct view
  • Simple print with minimal material usage
  • Uses common screws for installation

Hardware

  • Designed for #6 × 3/4" wood screws
  • Metric equivalent: 3.5 × 20 mm screws

Applications

  • Deck stair lighting
  • Composite stair treads
  • Trex decking projects
  • Outdoor LED accent lighting
  • Landscape and patio lighting
