Description

What it is

Best Buildplate Cleaner is a quick and simple maintenance print designed to clean filament residue from your build plate and to check first layer quality across almost the entire usable print area. The profile is carefully positioned to use as much of the build plate as possible, while keeping clear of the front left parking zone. It is especially useful before printing light coloured visible parts, where (dark) small residues from previous prints can otherwise transfer to the surface of the new print.

By far the hardest very simple print!

I honestly underestimated the complexity of making this al lot, considering the minimal tolerances and the “horrible” front-left parking zone. It took more than 15 revisions in Onshape and Bambu Studio to get it right. It was a fun challenge though.😁

Dimensions

254 x 250 x 0.20 mm

Designed for Bambu Lab X1 Carbon, X1, X1E, P1P and P1S

How it works

This profile creates a large single layer print across almost the entire usable build plate area.

When removing filament residue, always print it using the same material type as the residue already on the plate.

For example, if there is PETG residue on the build plate, print this profile in PETG. Do not use PLA or another filament type, as matching the material gives the best chance of picking up and removing the existing residue.

Besides its cleaning function, the large printed surface also makes issues such as uneven bed levelling, poor first layer adhesion or underextrusion much easier to identify.

Print settings:

Nozzle: 0.4 mm
Layer height: 0.20 mm
No support

No AMS

Material recommendations

The included profile is prepared with Bambu PLA Basic, but it can be used with other materials when the matching filament profile is selected.

Always use the same filament type as the residue you want to remove.

PETG residue: use PETG
PLA residue: use PLA
TPU residue: use TPU

Et cetera.

Material usage / print time

Around 16 g and approximately 25 minutes with the included profile.

Actual usage and print time can vary slightly depending on the selected filament and printer profile.

Notes

Do not use at the same time as Flow Dynamics calibration.

Do not move, rotate or scale the print on the build plate. (If so, reload it).

The model has been positioned very carefully to maximise the usable area while keeping clear of the front left parking zone. The tolerances are extremely tight, and manually aligning it correctly again is difficult.

This profile is intended to remove leftover filament residue and to help diagnose first layer issues. It does not replace normal cleaning when the plate is greasy or contaminated with fingerprints (see the effect of a fingerprint in the third picture). Clean the plate normally first when needed.

Pay attention to gaps, uneven extrusion, poor adhesion or visible variation across the printed surface. These can indicate suboptimal bed levelling, contamination, underextrusion or an incorrect filament profile.
