Description
Give your Dreame A2 the ultimate traction upgrade! I specifically designed these self-constructed, three-part wheels to reduce slipping, spinning, and getting stuck on inclines or wet lawns. The design and integrated additional weights improve grip
đ ïž Important Construction & Material Notes
NEW: Three-Part Hybrid Design The wheel now consists of three separate components:
- Rear Clamping Ring (Gray): Provides stability and attachment to the hub.
- Central Tire Tread Ring (Yellow): The main contact area with the lawn.
- Front Weight Clamping Ring (Gray): Accommodates the additional weights and closes the wheel from the front.
- Material Recommendation:
- Gray Parts (Rings): Due to permanent UV exposure, weathering, and mechanical stress, it is strongly recommended to print these from ASA-CF (Carbon Fiber Reinforced) or pure ASA.
Yellow Part (Tread Ring): To achieve maximum grip and a certain dampening effect, this ring must be printed from flexible TPU (Shore hardness e.g. 95A). Standard PLA is unsuitable for permanent outdoor use.
- Original Wheel Caps: The original wheel caps of the Dreame A2 fit perfectly on these printed wheels and can be easily reused.
To significantly increase traction, pockets for additional weights are integrated into the (gray) clamping rings. 42 pieces (8 mm diameter, 40 mm length) are required per wheel. These are simply pressed into the designated 8mm holes of the wheel with light pressure. Options for the additional weight:
- Dowel pins: Ă 8 mm x 40 mm (recommended)
- Round steel (cold drawn): Ă 8 mm, cut to 40 mm length yourself
- M8 threaded rod: Also cut into 40 mm sections Weight comparison (per wheel):
- Original wheel: 636 g
- Printed wheel (incl. cold drawn 8mm round steel): approx. 950 g (+ ~65% more weight for maximum traction, the weight of the TPU ring varies slightly!)
đ§ Assembly & Disassembly Instructions
Disassembly of the Original Wheels
- Remove Top Cover: Remove the top housing cover of the Dreame A2. To do this, open the clips (as marked in the pictures) and lift the cover off. â ïž Important: Be meticulous not to scratch the sensitive LiDAR sensor!
- Remove Wheel Caps: The wheel caps are also secured with 3 clips. Carefully pry them off from the back with a flathead screwdriver.
Remove Wheel: Disassemble the 6 Phillips head countersunk screws. After that, the original wheel can simply be pulled off the wheel hub
Assembly of the Three-Part Wheels (Pre-assembly)
- Slide the yellow TPU tread ring over the rear (gray) clamping ring and the front weight clamping ring.
Press the 42 weights (dowel pins/round steel) into the holes of the front (gray) weight clamping ring.
Mounting the New Wheels
- Place the pre-assembled wheel onto the hub.
- Further assembly is carried out in the exact reverse order of disassembly.đĄ Tip: Use a little threadlocker (blue / medium strength) on the 6 countersunk screws of the hub to prevent anything from loosening due to vibrations during operation.
đ Area of Use & Driving Behavior
- Optimized for: Pure lawn operation. The combination of extreme grip from the new TPU studs and the heavy weight presses the wheel perfectly into the ground, preventing it from getting stuck in rough terrain.
- Limitation: While driving performance on flagstones, asphalt, or paved paths slightly improves due to the TPU component compared to hard plastic spikes, it is still impaired (rolling behavior/vibrations). Anyone who has to cross many paved paths should consider this beforehand.
â ïž Disclaimer
This is a privately developed, modified accessory part (third-party upgrade) for the Dreame A2. The use and assembly of these wheels are entirely at your own risk and responsibility. I assume no liability whatsoever for damage to the robotic lawnmower (e.g. increased wear on gears or motors due to the higher weight and extreme grip), damage to the lawn, paved surfaces, or other property. Modifications to the device may void the manufacturer's warranty or guarantee claims
