Boost Me (for free)

Hi there! If you have a spare boost, I’d be so grateful for your support. While bigger creators often get lots of attention, boosting smaller creators like me truly makes a big difference. Your boost would help me keep sharing unique, niche models for everyone to enjoy. Thank you so much for considering it—it means the world! 🙏💖

This is a 3D printable ER32 collet workholding block designed for the Makera Carvera Original, Carvera Air, and Makera Z1 CNC machines.

The fixture uses a standard ER32 collet nut and standard ER32 collets as a compression-style workholding system. As the ER32 nut is tightened, the collet compresses evenly around the part, helping to hold round stock, tapered parts, tall parts, and irregular stock securely.

Different ER32 collet sizes can be used for different workholding needs. Each ER32 collet has a small clamping range, typically about 1mm, so you can choose the collet size that best matches the diameter of the part being held.

For more specialized shapes, custom compression sleeves can also be used inside the collet. In my example video (See below), I made a TPU sleeve that matches the profile of a tapered tobacco pipe stem. This allows the collet to apply more even pressure around the part instead of only grabbing at one small contact point.

The block is designed to mount in either the Anchor 1 or Anchor 2 position. From the selected anchor location, the center of the ER32 collet is approximately X+30mm and Y+30mm.

I printed mine in PLA+, and it has held up well for machining clamped round and tapered parts.

Important note:
Before installing the ER32 collet nut, add a small amount of lubricating oil to the 3D printed threads. This helps the nut turn smoothly, reduces friction, and helps prevent wear or damage to the printed threads over time. Do not over-tighten the nut, especially when using a printed fixture body.

Compatibility:
Makera Carvera Original
Makera Carvera Air
Makera Z1 CNC

What you will need:

  • Standard ER32 collet nut
  • ER32 collets sized for your workpiece
  • Mounting screws for your machine (Comes with machine)
  • Two 4mm alignment pins (Comes with machine)
  • Optional custom compression sleeves for tapered or irregular parts

Mounting notes:

  • Carvera Original and Carvera Air: uses 7 screws and two 4mm alignment pins in the anchor positions
  • Makera Z1: uses 4 screws and two top clamps because the bed hole pattern is different

Features:

  • Compression-style ER32 workholding
  • Designed for Anchor 1 or Anchor 2 mounting
  • Center of collet approximately X+30mm Y+30mm from anchor position
  • Works with different ER32 collet sizes
  • Can be used with custom compression sleeves
  • Holds round, tapered, tall, and odd-shaped parts
  • Useful for side machining and custom CNC workholding
  • 3D printable fixture body

This is not a traditional vise with moving jaws. It is an ER32 collet-based CNC workholding fixture that acts like a compact compression vise for parts that are round, tapered, tall, irregular, or otherwise awkward to hold.
