Description

Missing the exact dowel size for your woodworking or furniture repair project? This fully parametric generator lets you create custom fluted wooden dowels right in your browser! And the best part: it prints in under 20 minutes!

Whether you need standard sizes (like 8x40mm) or completely custom dimensions for special projects—simply adjust the parameters on the left, generate your model, and hit print.

⚙️ Adjustable Parameters:

  • diameter: Total outer diameter of the dowel (e.g., 6, 8, or 10 mm).
  • length: Total length of the dowel.
  • gro(o)ve count: The number of flutes/glue pockets around the perimeter.
  • gro(o)ve depth x2: The depth of the flutes.
  • chamfer: The bevel/chamfer at both ends for easy insertion.

⚠️ IMPORTANT PRINTING NOTE (For Maximum Strength)

Models generated by the tool will load on the build plate standing vertically by default.

  • For PC / Bambu Studio Users (Highly Recommended): Please rotate the dowel flat onto its side (horizontally) before printing! If you print a dowel standing up, it will snap very easily under shear stress along the layer lines. Printing it horizontally makes it incredibly strong and ready for real mechanical loads.
  • For Mobile App Users (Bambu Handy): Custom models generated directly in the app can unfortunately only be printed vertically due to app limitations. If you need the maximum strength of a horizontal print, please use my pre-configured Standard Print Profile ($8 \times 40\,\text{mm}$)—this profile is already perfectly laid flat and optimized for you!

💡 Recommended Print Settings:

  • Print Time: Under 20 minutes for standard sizes! Perfect for a quick fix.
  • Filament: PETG, ABS, or ASA for maximum mechanical strength. PLA works for light/decorative use but is more brittle.
  • Infill: 100% (Solid) recommended, since dowels are structural components.
  • Walls: At least 4–5 wall loops if you choose not to use 100% infill.
