Articulated Mahi Mahi (Coryphaena hippurus)

Mahi mahi are one of the most abundant gamefish in the ocean. Their numbers and great tasting meat makes them a top target for anglers. They are distinguished by their large foreheads (in males only), vibrant blue, green, and yellow colors, and their body-length dorsal fins. Females can spawn 2-3 times a year laying 80,000-1,000,000 eggs during each spawn! This incredibly fast reproduction rate has allowed them to spread globally, inhabiting temperate and tropical latitudes around the globe. They swim fast too, up to 57 mph (92 km/h). Anglers typically look for floating clumps of sargasso weed or frigate birds near reefs to find the fish and then use a variety of baits and lures to catch them. I've never caught one of these fish but its very high on my wishlist.

As for the model, it uses interlocking scale units to achieve a swimming motion. The model is printed in halves that are aligned with the registration pin and glued together. The standard model uses 5 colors and requires 2 AMS units, but I've provided a modified print profile where the pupil is navy instead of black, lowering the number of colors to 4 so the model can be printed with just 1 AMS. This is my first saltwater fish model and I hope you enjoy it!
