Description

Description

The CUSTOMIZABLE Tree Multiplier (Air Grafting) is a fully parametric, 3D‑printable tool designed to help you propagate trees through air grafting. The model consists of two interlocking halves that wrap around a branch and are secured with a simple clip, creating a sealed sphere filled with soil or moss to encourage root formation.

The standout feature of this design is its fully adjustable size. For the right ratio I recommend the following easy calculation:

Sphere Diameter = Branch Diameter × 3.5 (in the range of x 3 to x 4)

This ensures that thicker branches receive a larger soil chamber, improving moisture retention and increasing the success rate of root development. Whether you’re cloning small fruit tree shoots or thicker ornamental branches, the model adapts perfectly to your needs.

Key Features

  • Fully customizable dimensions Enter your branch diameter and sphere size according your requirements.
  • Two‑part sphere design The grafting chamber prints as two halves that easily snap together around the branch.
  • Clip‑based locking system A simple clip holds both halves securely in place during the rooting process.
  • Optimized for air grafting The internal sphere provides enough space for soil or moss to stay moist and promote root growth.
  • Reusable and durable Print once and reuse season after season.
  • Supports a wide range of branch sizes Works for small shoots up to thicker branches depending on your printer’s build volume.

Print Preparation

For best results, orient both halves of the sphere flat‑side down on the build plate. This gives the model maximum stability during printing and ensures that the outer surface of the sphere remains clean and smooth.

The design can be printed without supports (At least with the P2S I had multiple successful prints in different sizes). You may notice a few loose strings inside the sphere, but these do not affect the function or the fit of the two halves. If you prefer a perfectly clean interior surface, you can enable supports — but it’s optional.

Because the model is fully customizable, print time and material usage will vary depending on the sphere size you generate.
