Description

The original ds is infamous for its shell being prone to easily breaking, especially at the hinge area. Rather than buy an aftermarket version (which are just as weak or weaker than the original shells) you can 3d print yourself a new one! All pieces are included except for the bottom piece, because I don't think anyone ever has an issue with that one.

Note about what filament to use: these models are tricky to orient properly because they're so thin and don't have many flat areas. From my testing, you can print the bottom screen piece and lid piece with petg, no problem. However the top screen piece is prone to failing when printing with petg. I uploaded the settings that eventually worked for me (overture petg), but if you don't want to risk it, I would recommend printing that one with pla.

Also: again because they are so hard to orient, I eventually had to put them at a 45 degree angle. Because they're so thin, with the shrinkage of the filament layer lines, and the slight wobble it's going to have printing because it's a tall piece (I did try to support it as best I could), it won't print 100% like the model, so don't expect the top parts to align perfectly. Take a look at the third picture for an idea of what I'm talking about. But really, it's a very slight imperfection and you can't even notice it if you aren't looking closely.

Also also: I have a hinge piece available too. Just download it from the stl's because I didn't make a print profile for it.

If you want to swap the screen cover as well, with a new one bought online, check out this model.
