During routine maintenance on the lathe, I had to fully disassemble the tailstock. After reassembly, I needed a reliable way to realign it. While there are commercial alignment tools available, I decided to test how well a simple tapered alignment method would perform.
I aligned the tip of the live center with the point of the alignment pin, which resulted in a very close initial match. After running a few test cuts, I made minor final adjustments using a dial indicator. Overall, the method worked effectively and provided accurate alignment.
