Description

My son had an extra pond pump or two laying around so I thought I would use them for a couple of projects. My first “pond pump” creation is this waterfall water wheel. From the length-wise outside edges of the 2 bases, you need about 22" of space. If you would like to see it operating, check out these 2 posts on Reddit.

Unexpectedly, the water wheel makes a unique thumping sounds when in operation. The information (packaging) for the pump I used is included on one of the pics. The depth of the water will control the speed of the wheel and the sound it creates. Everything was printed in Bambu PETG. I first attempted to print one of the bases in PLA and I guess the water intensified the UV and it warped severely in the first hour of use.

Assembly (CA glue or Shoe Goo required)(Look at the schematics for clarity):

  1. Three-piece slide assembly - ORANGE on the cutaway view.
  2. Slide pipe fitting. - Also ORANGE.
  3. Round water diverter to slide assembly - YELLOW and roundish.
  4. Set aside the completed parts.
  5. Two sets of cantilever beams.
  6. Attach the beams to the tower. The little notches on the topside of the beams should be aimed inward.
  7. Feed the pipe through the tower. Let it hang loose.
  8. Attach the slide assembly to the beams and tower.
  9. Connect the pipe to the slide assembly.
  10. Put the pump in place and then attach the tower to the base feeding the pipe onto the pump during this process.
  11. Assemble the wheel and make sure the axle installation is part of this process.
  12. Place the wheel uprights onto the axle.
  13. Attach the uprights to the second base.
  14. Assembly completed!
