Turn filament waste into something practical.
This compression mold allows you to recycle purge lines, failed prints, supports, and filament offcuts into solid reusable coasters. Instead of throwing filament waste away, it can be reheated and compressed into a durable coaster with a completely unique appearance.
Every coaster is different, creating colourful patterns from the random mix of filament scraps used during the process.
Available Sizes
Choose the size that best suits your needs:
• 80mm Diameter – Compact size, ideal for smaller cups and saving filament.
• 100mm Diameter – Larger size, perfect for mugs, glasses, and larger drinks.
Both versions produce a coaster approximately 5mm thick.
How It Works
The mold consists of a base and compression plunger.
Filament scraps are placed inside the mold and heated using a heat gun or hair dryer until the material softens. The plunger is then pressed down to compress the softened filament.
Vent holes in the plunger allow trapped air to escape, helping create a denser finished coaster.
When compressing the material, the lip of the plunger eventually contacts the base of the mold. This acts as a built-in stop and automatically forms a coaster of the correct thickness.
The mold cavity includes a slight taper, helping the finished coaster release easily once cooled. The coaster can then be pushed out using the hole in the base.

Before use, please read the safety notes below.
Safety Notes
• Use in a well-ventilated area when heating or processing filament scrap
• Avoid inhaling fumes from melted or heated plastics
• Do not overheat filament — excessive heat may release harmful fumes
• Keep away from children during heating or processing
• Use appropriate tools and heat sources responsibly
- Collect filament purge lines, supports, failed prints, or scrap filament.
- Cut larger pieces into smaller sections so they pack into the mold more easily.
- For best results, break H2D purge waste into smaller pieces before use, as it is denser than standard purge.
- Fill the mold cavity with a layer of filament waste.
- Heat the material using a heat gun or hair dryer until it softens.
- Insert the plunger and compress the softened plastic.
- Add another layer of filament waste and repeat the heating and compression process.
- Continue building the coaster one layer at a time until the required thickness is reached and the plunger lip contacts the base.
- Allow the mold to cool completely.
- Push the finished coaster out through the hole in the base.
You now have a unique recycled filament coaster ready to use.
Print Recommendations
• Material: PETG minimum recommended
• Layer Height: 0.2 mm
• Walls: 4
• Infill: 25% (found to be stable during testing)
• Supports: Not required
PLA is not recommended due to the heating involved when softening filament scraps.
A small amount of oil or release agent can assist with removal, although it is generally not required thanks to the tapered mold design.
