Description

Description

This is a 3D printable 3.5" HDD/SSD caddy compatible with HP ProLiant Gen8 and Gen9 servers, designed as a direct companion for my 1U tray system.

https://makerworld.com/es/models/2912593-1u-tray-2x-3-5-sata-sas-for-hp-caddy#profileId-3257713

It replicates the mechanical fit and mounting geometry of the original HP hot-swap caddies, allowing you to use standard 3.5" SATA/SAS drives in HP server drive bays.

This design was created specifically to:

Provide a low-cost replacement for expensive OEM HP caddies

Work seamlessly with Gen8 / Gen9 hot-swap drive bays

Integrate with my custom 1U tray system and compatible storage setups

Key Features

✅ Compatible with HP ProLiant Gen8 / Gen9 3.5" bays

✅ Supports 3.5" SATA and SAS drives

✅ Designed for hot-swap use in supported backplanes

✅ Lightweight, fully 3D printable design

✅ Optimized for strength and repeated insertion/removal

✅ Works with standard HP server rail mechanisms

⚠️ Important Notes

This model is a mechanical replacement caddy only.

To achieve full hot-swap functionality, your system must include:

A hot-swap capable HP backplane (Gen8/Gen9 compatible)

A compatible SATA/SAS controller with hot-plug support

Proper server firmware / BIOS configuration

The caddy itself does not provide electronics, LED control, or drive intelligence.

Some servers may show warnings (e.g. “non-original drive”) but functionality is typically unaffected.

Printing Recommendations

Material: PETG / ABS / ASA recommended

Layer height: 0.2 mm

Walls: 3-4

Infill: 15-30%

Print orientation: face down

if you can print multi material, doing petg with the supports in pla leaves far nicer result as it has some big overhangs.

Use Cases

HP ProLiant Gen8 / Gen9 homelabs

DIY NAS / storage servers

Replacement for missing OEM caddies

Data hoarder / server rebuild projects

Integration with custom rack storage systems

Notes

Designed to pair with my custom 1U tray and HP-compatible storage system, enabling a full modular homelab storage setup without relying on expensive OEM parts.
