Description
This multi-functional octopus is designed to adapt to your needs directly inside the slicer! By utilizing built-in modifiers, a single beautiful sculpture transforms into a desk organizer, an atmospheric Edison-style lamp, or a cozy tealight candle holder.
š 4 Versions Included in the 3MF Project:
- The Decor Octopus (Plate 3): Purely aesthetic, no holes or modifiers. Perfect as a sculpture.
- The Desk Organizer / Pen Holder (Plate 2): Uses concentric positive and negative cylinders to turn 3 tentacles into practical pen slots.
- The Lamp Version (Plate 1): Features negative modifiers in 3 tentacles to fit E14 light bulb sockets.
- The Tealight Candle Holder: Uses the same base as the lamp version, combined with the modular candle cups included on Plate 4.
āļø Print Settings
- Filament Choice: * Octopus Body: Matte PLA or PETG looks great.
- Candle Cups (Plate 4): MANDATORY PETG (or ASA/ABS) to handle the heat from the aluminum tealight candles. Do not use standard PLA for the candle inserts.
- Infill: 8% Support Cubic was fine for mine print tests but if you want more weight especially for the lamp version, when inserting the E14 sockets, increase as wish.
š Bill of Materials
To build the lamp version as shown in the photos, you will need:
- 3x E14 Threaded Lamp Sockets (Check the tolerances in the slicer modifier before printing if your local hardware store sockets vary slightly).
- 3x E14 LED Filament Bulbs (T30 or ST64 vintage style recommended for the best aesthetic look. Use LED bulbs to prevent high heat build-up!).
- 1x Power cord with switch and a 3-way parallel splitter wire.
š” Alternative: No-Wiring & Battery Powered LED Bulbs
If you don't feel comfortable wiring standard E14 sockets or want a completely wireless lamp, you can easily use rechargeable battery-powered E14 LED bulbs (with remote control). Just print the lamp version, screw or friction-fit the rechargeable bulbs directly into the socket spaces, and you are good to goāno electrical skills required!
š Fully Customizable & Scalable
Please note that the negative modifiers and the candle cups are designed around the specific E14 sockets and standard tealight candles I had on hand.
Need a different size? You don't need to redesign the whole octopus! You can easily scale the Ā modifiers (the cylinders) or the candle holders directly inside Bambu Studio / Orca Slicer to match the exact dimensions of your local hardware store components or specific candle brands.
