Xarthuun, Harbinger of Ruin
Print Profile(1)

Description
This is an amazing Winged D&D Demon Lord miniature that I printed in SUNLU PLA+ 2.0. Please dry your filament!!!! Please have PATIENCE when removing supports.
The reason I say that is because this project was a great test of patience, printer tuning, and post-processing. The model was printed on a Bambu Lab printer using SUNLU PLA+ 2.0 Grey with a 0.08 mm Extra Fine profile and Tree Slim supports. The intricate wings, spear, horns, and tail created numerous overhangs that required extensive support structures during printing.
The first image shows the miniature immediately after printing, still surrounded by its support network. Removing the supports took considerable time and care to avoid damaging the delicate wing membranes and weapon details. After support removal, the model was cleaned up using a small flame torch to eliminate fine stringing and remaining PLA wisps.
The finished result is a highly detailed winged demon miniature ready for tabletop RPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, or fantasy skirmish games.

Important Lessons Learned
A clean build plate is absolutely critical. Even a small amount of oil, dust, or residue can lead to failed prints, especially when printing highly detailed miniatures with small contact points. Wash the build plate thoroughly before starting a print.
Filament should be dried for at least 24 hours before printing. Moisture in PLA is one of the leading causes of stringing, poor surface quality, weak layer adhesion, and failed supports.
In my experience, cheap off-brand PLA often results in failed miniature prints, excessive stringing, poor detail, and inconsistent extrusion. For highly detailed models like this, quality filament matters.
Recommended Filaments for Miniatures
The filaments I have found to produce the most reliable results are:
- SUNLU PLA+ 2.0 ⭐
- eSUN PLA+
- eSUN PLA Meta
- Polymaker PolyLite PLA Pro
- Polymaker PolyTerra PLA
- Overture PLA Professional
- Bambu Lab PLA Basic
- Bambu Lab PLA Matte (excellent detail but slightly more brittle)
- Elegoo Rapid PLA+
- Inland PLA+ (Micro Center)
For FDM miniatures, SUNLU PLA+ 2.0 and eSUN PLA+ remain among the best combinations of detail, strength, consistency, and value.
Print Progression
- Fresh off the printer with supports attached.
- Supports carefully removed by hand.
- Final cleanup after torch treatment and string removal.
The extra time spent on support removal and cleanup was well worth it, resulting in a tabletop-ready demon miniature with impressive detail from a 0.4 mm nozzle FDM printer.
“Sometimes the hardest part of a print isn’t printing it—it’s bringing the model to life after it leaves the build plate.”
