Description

This project converts a 27” iMac Mid 2010 into a modern all-in-one monitor/computer using a Radxa X4 SBC, while reusing as much of the original iMac hardware as possible.

The 3D printed parts are designed to keep the build clean, modular, and serviceable. The RAM Hatch Expansion adds front controls, video ports, power control, and fan adjustment without permanently modifying the main chassis. The Rear I/O Assembly reuses the original LAN and USB port locations with modular printed inserts for LAN, USB-A, USB-C charging, and blank/future modules.

The build reuses the original iMac power supply, speakers, microphone, camera, SD card reader, fans, antennas, and chassis. It adds HDMI and DisplayPort input, HDMI output for a second monitor, USB3 ports, LAN, internal audio, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth antennas.

A detailed PDF guide is included with the project, covering the required parts, wiring, assembly, and important notes. The design is also available as a public TinkerCAD project, so it can be cloned and modified for different connectors, buttons, cables, or future iMac variants.

This is not a simple plug-and-play project, but it is a flexible base for anyone who wants to repurpose an old 27” iMac into a modern custom AIO or monitor.
