When building a trap-powered car, weight and momentum are everything. This custom-designed wheel is engineered specifically for distance competition rather than raw speed. By utilizing a specialized minimalist cross-section, this design strips away all unnecessary material to drastically reduce weight, allowing your car to roll farther on a single spring snap.

📐 Important Compatibility Note

  • Designed for Adaptability: This wheel was originally scaled and optimized for a larger, high-torque Rat Trap Car. Because axle sizes and chassis widths vary wildly between mouse trap and rat trap builds, you may need to scale this model up or down in your slicer to perfectly fit your specific vehicle's axle.

🛠️ Print Settings

To achieve the best balance of strength and extreme weight savings, use these parameters:

  • Material: Standard PLA works perfectly fine and keeps the wheel rigid!
  • Supports: None
  • Wall Loops: 2 (Reduces outer rim weight to keep rotational inertia low)
  • Infill: 10% - 15%
  • Infill Pattern: Grid 

⚙️ Distance Optimization Tips

  1. Traction Upgrade: If your drive wheels slip at launch, stretch a large rubber band or a slice of a bicycle inner tube around the outer rim of the wheel.
  2. Axle Fit: Print a single test wheel first to verify your axle clearance before printing a full set.
