Description
Retainer Tube/Rod - Plastic rods for convertible top cover (Jaguar XK8/XKR cab)
The convertible top cover (tonneau/boot cover) on the 2004 Jaguar XK/XKR convertible has 3 plastic rods/rollers sewn into a strong band at the very back of the convertible top cover. They are placed under the trunk lid when the cover has been laid on the roof in the retracted position. If any of them have broken or gone missing, this can be printed and used.
Instead of buying spare parts: Save money and print them!
Material: PETG
Instructions: 1 'roller'/'pin' and 2 'wheels' are needed to replace one plastic rod.
Assembly: Place one wheel on one side of the roller, thread the rod into the hem of the convertible top cover, place wheel number 2 on the other side. To reinforce durability, you can glue or heat the outside of the roller (where the pin goes through the wheel).
Function
- Construction: Round rods or tubes are hidden in the rear hem of the convertible top cover.
- Function: You open the trunk lid, place the flap with the rods in the groove/channel (the gutter) just in front of the trunk opening, and then close the trunk lid over them.
- Purpose: Since the "rollers" are thicker than the gap between the trunk lid and the body, they act as a mechanical stop. This prevents the wind from tearing off the convertible top cover when you are driving.
Good luck!
PS.
When searching for spare parts for, for example, Jaguar XK8 or XKR: The rods are sometimes called fastening rod/fastening strip/keder strip or convertible top keder. English name: Retainer Tube For Rear of Convertible Top Boot
Original number (Jaguar OEM): HJA7845DA
Price example if ordering as spare parts: 31.95 US$ :)
