Lace Dubrae — Custom Sneaker Tags

Lace Dubrae — the little plate that rides on your sneaker laces, now anything you want it to say.

HOW IT WORKS

The lace threads through ONE big channel that runs straight through the plate and exits both ends, so the lace is hidden inside and the top face stays a clean name plate. The plate bows gently along its length, just like the real metal dubraes, so it sits flush over the lacing. Thread your two lower lace runs through it and it stays centred and level.

ONE BODY HOSTS EVERY NAME

There is a single shared body.stl — the curved plate with the lace channel and the engraved frame. It is identical for every name. You print the body ONCE, then choose a name plate to sit on top of it. The name plates (text_NAME.stl) are modelled in the exact same coordinate space as the body, so they drop straight onto it with no aligning.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE (two-colour, recommended)

1. Print body.stl in your main colour.

2. Print the text_NAME.stl you want in a contrast colour.

3. In Bambu Studio: Import body.stl, then Import text_NAME.stl into the SAME plate. Because they share coordinates they land perfectly registered, so do NOT move them. Assign the text a second filament and slice. The letters sit raised on the curved top in their own colour. (You can also right-click the text and Assemble to lock them as one object.)

No AMS? Just print body + text and glue, or print only the body and add a sharpie, but the cleanest result is a contrast filament.

WANT YOUR OWN WORD? (the .scad is parametric)

lace_dubrae.scad is the full parametric source. You do not need to learn OpenSCAD, just install it (free) and run two commands:

  openscad -o body.stl      -D part=body                     lace_dubrae.scad

  openscad -o text_NAME.stl -D part=text  -D name=NAME        lace_dubrae.scad

Replace NAME with any word. That regenerates the body (same for everyone) and a fresh text plate for your word. Prefer a single-colour print? Use part=engrave instead of part=text and it cuts the letters INTO the top so you can print one part in one colour.

Other knobs at the top of the file: font, text_h (letter height), plate_w (make it longer for long words), slot_w (channel width, drop to about 5 mm for round laces, raise for fat flat laces), curve_sag (how much it bows).

PRINT SETTINGS

- Flat on the bed, name face up. No supports, no brim.

- 0.2 mm layers, 3+ walls, 15-20% infill.

- Any filament. The two-colour look needs an AMS or a manual filament swap.
