Description
An almorratxa or morratxa[1] (from Arabic al-miįrášš, id.) is a decorated vessel made of glass (but also earthenware and sometimes metal) in the shape of a bottle from which small spouts emerge, similar to those of an oil cruet.[2] They began to be made in Catalan territory in the 16th century, but it was in the 18th century when they became more popular. Formerly, it was used to hold perfume. The almorratxa is of Islamic origin, and is called the same in Arabic.[3] This, along with the càntir and the porró, is one of the indigenous pieces of Catalonia.
