Description

Project:

Pat & Mat Houses

Scale:

H0 (1:87)

Description:

This project is a highly detailed H0 scale recreation of the iconic houses belonging to Pat and Mat from the famous stop-motion animated series Pat a Mat (A je to!).

The model was created by carefully studying multiple episodes of the series and comparing the different appearances of the houses throughout the show's history. Since the houses change slightly between episodes and seasons, there is no single "correct" version. This model represents a balanced interpretation of them.

My goal was to reproduce the proportions and dimensions of the houses as accurately as possible while keeping them believable alongside other H0-scale buildings and model railway layouts. As a result, the models should fit naturally into railway scenes, dioramas, and display collections while still being instantly recognizable to fans of the series.

The houses are divided into multiple printable wall and roof sections. This approach reduces filament changes when printing multicolor versions and allows builders to customize individual parts more easily.

Lighting and customization:

Special optional interior “curtain” (black, house looking part) inserts are included with the project.

These inserts can be placed inside the buildings to simulate realistic curtains and, more importantly, allow interior lighting effects. When a light source is installed inside the house, only selected windows will appear illuminated, creating a much more natural and realistic appearance compared to fully transparent interiors.

An optional lamp housing above the entrance door is also included. It is designed to accommodate small LEDs (3.5mm diameter), making it possible to illuminate the exterior entrance light as well.

Printing details:

  • Designed for FDM printing
  • Most parts can be printed without supports
  • AMS recommended for full multicolor version
  • 0,4mm nozzle or smaller recommended

Full multicolor version:

The project was prepared for printing with up to 8 colors:

  • Red
  • Black
  • White
  • Gray
  • Translucent / Transparent (only for door light)
  • Brown
  • Green
  • Yellow

An AMS is recommended for the complete version. However, the model can also be printed using fewer colors and painted afterward, making it suitable for users without multicolor printing equipment.

Included parts:

  • Pat's house
  • Mat's house
  • Roof sections
  • Walls
  • Doors
  • Windows (sic! they include gaps - I recommend to glue a foil from the inside)
  • Gutters
  • Stairs
  • Front and side fences
  • Optional “curtain” inserts
  • entrance light housings
  • Display stand

Final note:

This project was created by a long-time fan of Pat a Mat who always wanted to place these iconic houses on a model railway layout. Because the appearance of the houses changes slightly throughout the series, some compromises were necessary, but I tried to preserve the spirit and most recognizable details of every version.

Whether you build them exactly as provided, repaint them, add interior lighting, or recreate your favorite episode, I hope these houses bring a little bit of Pat and Mat's creativity—and chaos—to your layout.

And remember: if something doesn't fit the first time... you're probably building it exactly like Pat and Mat would! :)
