Description

NIOSH Limit: At 110 dB, the maximum safe exposure time is just 1 minute per day without hearing protection… so wear ear protection 🛡️

Look, we all know that this is probably the worlds smallest whistle but I think it needs an actual name. Due to the EXTREME EAR PEIRCING sound and TEENY TINY SIZE of this gremlin, I have deemed the name “The Earwig”

How did I come up with The Earwig? -

One day I was researching things to design that everyone can print and use with minimum material. I noticed many whistles designs do fairly well and gain a lot of attention… with tons of them claiming to be the "WORLD'S loudest” or “WORLD'S smallest”

I did not want tinnitus, so I aimed at making, probably, the “World's Smallest Whistle" instead. I studies many different designs in order to get the dimensions, print time, and weight needed to be THE ACTUAL SMALLEST amongst all the popular files out there. Here are the things I did to test all possible variations to create what's (probably) the smallest whistle out there.

Chamber Optimization- The overall wind chamber will not function if any smaller.. It has the exact width and length it can have in order to function. Any smaller- no whistle, and bigger- someone beats my record. 🏆

Wall Thickness- Most walls are exactly 0.8mm thick (two 0.4 walls) to ensure quality, durability and printability. 💪

Weight and Cost- under 0.2 grams per whistle - The 3MF contains 4 on the build plate that print in 10 mins, uses 0.75g, and cost $0.02. Which means each one costs like half a penny 💰

Dimensions-  3MF Prints at 67% of the original design, YOU CAN SCALE AS LOW AS 55%

At 0.55 scale it is 2.85 x3.4x16.6mm at 0.17 grams (probably the smallest) 📐

Loudness- I registered a 110dB, It's extremely loud and vibrates your eardrum at a painful pitch 📢

How to use- With your pointer finger and thumb, pinch the two oval-like holes on the back sides, then tightly seal the top and bottom holes on the mouthpiece with your lips, pursing your lips and blowing hard for best results. Make sure you do not cover the top whistle hole.

Warning- PLEASE Do not overdue the use of this device, and always wear ear protection when using, NEVER blow directly into anyone's ears. Like any other super loud whistle you can download and print- it can cause ear damage. The Earwig is capable of hitting decibel levels way over 100dB
