Description
3D Printed LE-GO Brick Sorter and storage— 6-Level Sieve Tower
A practical, space-efficient LE-GO sorting tower designed to bring order to your brick collection. This 6-level sieve system lets you drop in a mixed pile of LE-GO elements and sort them by size in one pass, from tiny technic pins and 1×1 plates right up to large baseplate-scale pieces.
How it works
Each level is a flat sieve tray with a grid of holes. Bricks too large to fall through collect on that level, while smaller pieces continue down. The levels stack from finest at the top to coarsest above the solid base, giving you five sorted size bands plus a catch-all bottom tray.
How to use
- Assemble the tower — Stack all six trays in order, with the 8.6 mm sieve on top and the solid base at the bottom. The trays nest together and sit flat without any fixings needed.
- Load your bricks — Pour your unsorted LE-GO onto the top tray. Work in batches for best results; overloading can stop smaller pieces from falling through cleanly. A good rule of thumb is no more than a single layer of bricks across the top tray at a time.
- Shake to sort — Hold the tower firmly and give it a steady side-to-side shake for 20–30 seconds. The vibration encourages pieces to find the right holes and work their way down through the levels. A gentle circular motion can also help stubborn pieces along.
- Disassemble and collect — Lift off each tray from the top down and tip the contents into your storage containers or sorting trays. Each level should contain a fairly consistent size range of elements, making the next stage of sorting by colour or type much quicker.
- Repeat as needed — For very large or mixed collections, run the batch through a second time to catch any stragglers that got stuck on the wrong level.
Sieve levels (top to bottom)
| Level | Hole Size | Catches |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 8.6 mm | Tiny elements — 1×1 plates, clips, small technic pins |
| 2 | 15 mm | Small bricks — 1×1 and 1×2 bricks, small tiles |
| 3 | 22 mm | Medium bricks — 1×2, 2×2 bricks and plates |
| 4 | 32 mm | Large bricks — 2×4 bricks, larger plates |
| 5 | 45 mm | Extra-large elements — 2×6+, large slopes, big technic pieces |
| 6 (base) | Solid | Catches everything else |
Design highlights
- IKEA Kallax compatible — sized to drop straight into a standard 33×33 cm Kallax cube, so it stores bricks neatly on your shelf when not in use
- Maximises the Bambu Labs P1S build plate — the footprint is optimised to use as much of the 256×256 mm print area as possible, maximising the storage area
- Child-friendly finger indents — each tray features side slots so little hands can lift and separate the levels easily without spilling their sorted bricks
- Print-in-place stack — levels are separate flat trays that nest and stack without any hardware or glue
- Sturdy wall thickness — designed with enough wall stock to survive repeated use and the occasional accidental drop
- No supports needed — flat geometry on each level means clean prints straight off the plate
Print settings (recommended for P1S)
- Material: PETG or PLA (PETG recommended for durability)
- Layer height: 0.2 mm
- Infill: 15–20% gyroid
- Supports: None required
- Orientation: Flat on the bed
Boost Me (for free)
If this sorter has saved your sanity (and your feet from a midnight brick ambush), please give it a Boost! 🙌
It took a lot of tweaking to get those hole sizes just right, and every Boost helps more builders discover it and keeps me motivated to keep designing. It's free, it takes one click, and it genuinely means a lot. Happy building! 🧱
