Description

CATIS Siphon Piston Seal (Mushroom Valve) – TPU 85A Replacement

This replacement piston seal was designed to restore the functionality of the classic CATIS siphon, replacing the original rubber "mushroom" gasket that often becomes hard, cracked, or deformed over time.

After testing, the seal provides excellent closure and smooth operation when printed with flexible TPU filament.

Important Printing Instructions

⚠️ This part MUST be printed in TPU 85A or softer.

Recommended materials:

  • TPU 85A (ideal)
  • TPU 80A
  • Very soft TPE filaments

Harder materials such as PETG, PLA, ABS, ASA, or TPU 95A are not recommended, as they may not seal properly against the siphon seat.

Recommended Print Orientation

For maximum durability, flexibility, and sealing performance:

✅ Rotate the model approximately 45° upward before slicing.

Printing at a 45° angle:

  • Improves layer adhesion in the most stressed areas
  • Produces a smoother sealing surface
  • Reduces the risk of layer separation
  • Increases service life
  • Provides better conformity to the valve seat

Print Settings

  • Material: TPU 85A
  • Layer Height: 0.16 – 0.20 mm
  • Walls: 4–5
  • Infill: 100%
  • Print Speed: 20–35 mm/s
  • Supports: Recommended when printed at 45°
  • Cooling: Moderate

Installation

  1. Remove the old damaged seal.
  2. Clean the valve rod and seating surface.
  3. Install the new TPU seal onto the piston stem.
  4. Verify smooth movement of the piston.
  5. Reassemble the CATIS siphon and test for proper sealing.
