Grand Griffon Vendéen Bust

This Grand Griffon Vendéen bust captures the rugged dignity and expressive depth of this distinguished French scent hound. The piece emphasises the breed’s elongated head structure, textured coat, and thoughtful expression.

The muzzle is long and well-proportioned, tapering subtly toward the nose while retaining strength and balance. The brow is gently defined, creating natural shadow over the eye and enhancing the characteristic contemplative gaze. The eye itself is carefully recessed, framed by layered fur that reinforces both realism and emotional depth.

Coat detailing is central to this sculpture. The crown and cheeks are modelled with directional, slightly coarse texturing that reflects the breed’s rough, weather-resistant coat. The long, pendulous ears flow downward with natural curvature, carved with layered strands that create movement and weight. Under the jaw and along the neck, the fur thickens into controlled, cascading texture, supporting the breed’s substantial presence without overwhelming structure.

The bronze-style patina deepens the sculptural definition. Darkened recesses settle into the fur texture and beneath the ear folds, while warm metallic highlights trace raised strands, brow ridges, and muzzle contours. This interplay of light and shadow enhances dimensionality and reinforces the rustic elegance of the piece.

The stepped circular plinth, finished with cracked stone detailing, provides architectural grounding and stability. Its structured form contrasts effectively with the organic coat modelling, achieving compositional balance.

The Grand Griffon Vendéen Bust stands as a tribute to heritage, endurance, and noble character—an expressive sculptural interpretation of a hound defined by both refinement and rugged charm.
