With these two 3D-printed router templates, you can precisely create side finger grooves in cutting boards and serving boards using a flush trim router bit.
Description
The set consists of two versions that allow different handle positions.
For a centered handle groove, the template can be printed and combined with the appropriate side walls depending on your needs.
Mounting System
Two versions are available for securely fixing the template:
Version 1: Heat-Set Inserts
One side wall is designed for M4 heat-set inserts, which are installed after printing.
For this version, M4×10 mm screws are used.
Version 2: Embedded Nut
The print is paused at layer 138. At this point, an M4 nut is inserted and then encapsulated by continuing the print, creating a strong integrated mounting point.
For this version, M4×16 mm screws are used.
Maximum Workpiece Thickness
With the embedded nut version, cutting boards up to a maximum thickness of 53 mm can be securely clamped.
Usage
- Position the template and secure it with M4 screws
- Optionally reinforce with double-sided tape
- Route along the guide using a router
⚠️ Important: Never remove the full cutting depth in a single pass. Always work in multiple shallow passes to avoid kickback and material damage.
Note
For ergonomic handle placement, the single template can also be used separately and fixed directly to the workpiece using double-sided tape.
Originally designed for PETG, but also printable in PLA for general use.
