Hello fellow makers and classic car enthusiasts!
This is a reverse-engineered replica of an incredibly rare component: the Wiper Linkage Motor Gear for a 1947 Dodge Custom Deluxe D24.
The original gears from this era were typically made of Bakelite or phenolic composites, which degrade, wear out, or shatter over decades of use. Since OEM replacements are practically impossible to find, I designed this replacement from scratch to get the wiper system running smoothly again. After two rounds of prototyping and direct testing within the motor housing, the dimensions and tolerances are dialed in for a perfect fit and flawless operation.
Print Profile Details: This design requires high precision so the gear teeth mesh perfectly with the metal worm gear without binding. The included print profile is highly optimized for extreme resolution and mechanical strength:
- Printer: Bambu Lab A1
- Nozzle: 0.2mm Stainless Steel (Highly recommended to achieve sharp, accurate gear tooth profiles).
- Filament: PETG HF. (PETG is the ideal choice here due to its excellent toughness, torque resistance, and chemical resistance to lubricants).
- Layer Height: 0.08mm High Quality. This extreme resolution ensures buttery-smooth mechanical movement.
- Walls & Generator: 4 Wall loops using the Arachne wall generator. Arachne is crucial for this model; it dynamically adjusts line width to densely pack the narrow tips of the gear teeth without leaving void spaces, resulting in a solid and incredibly strong structure.
- Infill: 15% Gyroid (Efficient for omnidirectional load distribution within the core).
- Top Surface: Octagram Spiral for a clean, premium, and professional finish.
(Note: Print time is roughly 4 hours for a pair of gears—a very worthwhile investment for a durable, functional part).
⚠️ Important Installation Note: When installing this PETG gear into the motor housing, it MUST be liberally lubricated with grease (white lithium grease or silicone grease is highly recommended). PETG is highly resistant to automotive lubricants, so it will not degrade. Greasing the assembly prevents dry friction between the metal worm gear and the plastic teeth, drastically extending the lifespan of your printed part.
