Description

Revive your classic Mercedes-Benz C126 coupe's interior mechanics with this precisely engineered replacement gear for the seatbelt arm retractor assembly.

Over decades of use, the original factory plastic gears in the 560SEC (and likely other C126 models) become brittle, crack, and eventually strip, causing the seatbelt presenter arm to fail. Sourcing a completely new old stock (NOS) retractor mechanism is often expensive and difficult. This model is a 1:1 dimensional replica designed to replace the shattered OEM gear, tested for a smooth, plug-and-play fitment to restore the automated seatbelt arm extension.

Universal Application & Custom Scaling: To make this asset even more useful for the maker community, I have included a detailed 2D engineering drawing sheet with exact dimensions (e.g., 5.14mm gear thickness, 10.4mm total height, Ø3.8mm center shaft). While specifically reverse-engineered for the C126 chassis, the standard tooth profile makes this a highly versatile universal gear for other DIY engineering, robotics, or custom restoration projects. Feel free to resize, rescale, or remix the model in your slicer or preferred CAD software to fit your specific mechanical needs!

Recommended Print Settings: To ensure this functional part can withstand mechanical tension and the high temperatures often found inside a car cabin, printing in PETG is highly recommended (Bambu Lab PETG HF was used for the tested part).

For maximum durability and precise gear meshing, please follow these slicing parameters:

  • Layer Height: 0.12mm Fine (Crucial for the smooth curvature of the gear teeth).
  • Wall Loops / Perimeters: 5 (Highly important: more walls provide the necessary shear strength to handle motor torque).
  • Infill Density: 50%
  • Infill Pattern: Gyroid (For isotropic strength).
  • Top/Bottom Surface Pattern: Concentric (Helps distribute radial stress evenly across the gear).
  • Wall Generator: Arachne (Ensures the narrow gaps in the gear teeth are printed solidly).
  • Supports: Enable Tree Supports (Auto) - On build plate only.

Installation & Maintenance Note: During assembly, apply a light coat of plastic-safe grease (such as Silicone Grease or PTFE/Teflon Grease) to the gear teeth and the center pivot shaft. This will significantly reduce mechanical friction and prolong the life of the 3D-printed part. ⚠️ Do not use petroleum-based heavy greases or penetrating fluids, as they can degrade the plastic over time.
