Having issues with the original canopy for the Air65 whoop, such as the camera twisting, I decided to design my own canopy to solve this problem. After two months of designing, flying, and redesigning, I’m proud to present Gordo’s version of a canopy for the C03 camera.
Although my favorite camera angle for racing is 45 degrees, I also prepared versions for 42.5, 40, and 35 degrees for my fellow pilots. The 45-degree version is the lightest and weighs 0.83 g. The other versions may weigh up to 0.93 g.
Recomendation:
If you fly with AIO G4 5in1 (from Air65) I recommend mounting it upside down so the camera plug doesn't colide with the canopy. This is the way I fly it.
IMPORTANT NOTE!
I added special ultralight models with base thinner in case someone needs to instal LED's between canopy side mounting holes and AIO mounting holes. This reduced base size allows you to still use stock screws. It also makes canopy even ligher (0.76 g). You can print them using profile called “Tej profile - SUNLU TPU … ”
Assembly
Simple 😄 Just gently push the camera in from the back until it snaps into place. The canopy is designed to keep the camera securely mounted and prevent twisting or falling out.
Many pilots asked me about the camera lens sticking out without protection. During testing, I never broke a single camera. From my experience, most intermediate pilots don’t hit walls head-on at maximum speed. We usually crash by clipping a gate, causing the whoop to make some uncontrolled flips and rolls. Additionally, the damping properties of TPU combined with the 3-point canopy mount (instead of four) help absorb impact forces quite effectively.
Before publishing this model, I flew exclusively with this canopy for two months during race preparation and at the race itself — with no issues.
This is my flight with this canopy installed proving its airworthy 💪🚀
I enjoy designing process even more when I can sip a coffee. If my work made your day brighter would you mind buying me one coffee here :D ?
