Parametric Washer/Spacer Generator

Create custom washers, spacers, shims and special-purpose fixing plates directly from a fully parametric OpenSCAD model.

This generator is designed to be simple, practical and flexible: choose the washer type, select a standard metric clearance hole or enter a custom diameter, then adjust the outer size, thickness and edge fillet to create the exact part you need.

To create a simple spacer, select Standard and increase the Thickness value.

Available washer types

The generator includes multiple washer and spacer profiles:

  • Standard Washer: classic round washer with a central hole.
  • C-Shaped Washer: open washer with a side slot, useful when the washer must be inserted without fully removing a screw or cable.
  • Inside D-Shaped Washer: round outer body with a flat-sided internal hole.
  • Outside D-Shaped Washer: round washer with a flat cut on the outer body.
  • Slotted Washer: washer with an elongated internal slot, available with either circular or slotted outer shape.
  • Countersunk Washer: round washer with a conical countersink for countersunk screws.
  • Square Washer: square outer profile with central hole.
  • Hexagonal Washer: hexagonal outer profile with central hole.
  • Internal Hexagon Washer: round outer body with internal hexagonal hole.
  • Two-Hole Washer: round plate with two holes and adjustable center-to-center spacing.

     

Customization

The model can be customized through the Parametric Model Maker. You can select a standard metric clearance hole from M2 to M24, or use a custom hole diameter if you need a specific size.

The main dimensions are fully adjustable, including outer diameter, total thickness or spacer height, and a light edge fillet for softer edges. Depending on the selected washer type, additional parameters become useful, such as the C-shaped opening width, D-shaped cut depth, slot length, countersink diameter, countersink depth and two-hole center distance.

The model includes automatic safety limits to help avoid invalid geometry. These limits help maintain enough wall thickness around the holes, prevent countersinks from getting too close to the outer edge, limit excessive fillets and keep the generated part printable.

 

Spacer mode

This model can also be used as a simple spacer generator. Select Standard as the washer type, choose the desired hole diameter, set the outer diameter, then increase the thickness to create a cylindrical spacer.

This is useful for electronics projects, mechanical assemblies, repairs, prototypes and any situation where a custom-height spacer is needed.

 

Suggested print settings

Recommended settings:

  • Layer height: 0.08 - 0.20 mm
  • Walls/perimeters: 2 or more
  • Infill: 30-100%, depending on the application
  • Supports: Not required for most versions
  • Orientation: print flat on the bed

For functional parts, use enough walls and infill to suit the load. For small washers and spacers, a high wall count is usually more important than high infill.

 

Notes

This is a parametric generator, so the final part depends on the values you set in the customizer.

Very small parts, thin walls or extreme parameter combinations may require slower print speeds and careful calibration. For best results, check the preview before slicing and make sure the generated geometry matches your intended use.

 

Use cases

This generator is useful for creating custom washers, spacers, shim plates, fixing plates, RC parts, electronics spacers, DIY repair parts, workshop hardware, furniture adjustments, mechanical prototypes and small hardware replacements.

It is a simple but versatile tool for quickly creating the exact washer or spacer you need.
