This remix extends the Gira E2 cover frame with integrated rain/weather protection.

I designed this frame to install a Gira Schuko socket with a hinged lid (model no. 445403) on my exterior house wall. In combination with the original Gira Splash-Proof Kit (IP44), this frame optimally seals the socket to the house wall at the back, while the new roof provides additional protection from rain from above.

The excellent E2 frame by pql on Printables served as the basis for the design:

Material & filament Recommendation

Since the component is permanently exposed to the weather, UV and weather-resistant materials should definitely be used:

  • ASA (Highly recommended): The best material for outdoor use, as it is extremely UV-resistant and does not discolor or become brittle.
  • PETG (Good alternative): I printed my personal copy from PETG. So far, it has performed inconspicuously and easily withstands the sun.
  • Please do not use normal PLA for outdoor use!

Available Print Profiles

I have uploaded two pre-configured print profiles for you:

Profile 1: PETG with PLA Support (Tested & Recommended)

  • Orientation: Horizontal for maximum roof stability.
  • Special Feature: This profile uses PLA as a separation layer (interface layer) for the support structures. Since PETG and PLA do not bond with each other, this ensures an extremely clean surface on the underside of the rain cover and the support can be removed very easily and without residue.

Profile 2: Support-optimized (Untested)

  • Orientation: Optimized so that the model requires almost no support structures.
  • Note: This profile has not yet been test-printed by me. Feedback in the comments is very welcome!

⚠️ Legal Notice / Disclaimer

The installation of electrical components and outdoor sockets should always be carried out professionally and in compliance with applicable safety regulations (e.g., IP44 certification). I assume no liability for damages due to improper installation or moisture ingress.
