Description

Turn a standard raised garden bed into a protected enclosure using simple dowels, mesh, and 3D printed connectors.

This modular enclosure kit is designed to convert a standard raised garden bed into a lightweight protected growing enclosure using common materials and easy-to-print parts. The system mounts directly to standard 2x4 corner posts and uses wooden dowels or rods to create a customizable frame for mesh, insect netting, shade cloth, or lightweight fencing.

The goal was to create something that looks clean, installs easily, and does not require advanced woodworking skills or expensive greenhouse hardware.

Features:

  • Fits standard 2x4 lumber posts
  • Modular design allows custom bed sizes
  • Hinged side access panel
  • Lightweight but sturdy
  • Helps protect against rabbits, squirrels, birds, and pests
  • Works with insect mesh, garden netting, or hardware cloth
  • Minimal hardware required
  • Easy to repair or modify
  • Great for raised beds and elevated planters

Materials Needed:

  • Standard 2x4 raised bed posts
  • ¾ " Wooden dowels/rods
  • Mesh, insect netting, or hardware cloth
  • Wood screws
  • Optional hardware depending on your setup

Printed Parts Include:

  • Corner caps/connectors
  • Side rail holders
  • Hinged access components
  • Mesh clamps
  • Support brackets (If you don't need all the support brackets - the ones that hold the screen to the dowel, you can just choose how many you want to print).

Printing Notes:

  • PETG or ASA recommended for outdoor use
  • PLA may work short-term but is not ideal for long-term sun exposure
  • Designed around standard dimensional lumber tolerances
  • Most parts print without supports

Customization:
Because the frame uses dowels and standard lumber, the enclosure can easily be adapted to different bed lengths and heights without redesigning the printed parts.

Notes:
I forgot to take photos of all the individual printed parts before assembly, but the installed photos should help show how the system goes together. I may add additional assembly photos or exploded views in a future update.

This project was designed to be practical, modular, repairable, and easy to customize for different garden layouts.

Lastly, I would not change any of the orientation or support settings as let's just say I learned the hard way.
