Dell 3020 Micro External M.2 RJ45 Adapter Housing
Print Profile(1)

Description
I designed this housing while upgrading my Dell OptiPlex 3020 Micro home server. The system was already using a high-performance USB 2.5GbE adapter, but I wanted to evaluate an Intel i226-V M.2 Ethernet controller for long-term reliability.
The Dell chassis provides no convenient mounting location for the RJ45 module, so I created this simple external housing that routes the ribbon cable through the existing rear opening without modifying the case.
This housing was designed to allow installation of an 2.5Gbps M.2 Ethernet adapter when no dedicated expansion opening is available on the chassis.
The adapter mounts externally and connects to the internal M.2 slot via a ribbon cable routed through the existing rear chassis opening.
Features:
• Compact external design
• No cutting or permanent modification required
• Ventilation slots for improved airflow
• Easy access to the RJ45 port
• Compatible with Intel i226-V based M.2 Ethernet adapters
• Suitable for home lab, firewall, router, NAS and server projects
This design was created for a Dell OptiPlex 3020 Micro running Debian used as home server, but may also be useful for other Dell Micro systems with similar rear chassis layouts.
Please verify dimensions against your specific adapter before printing.
