Description

Pathé Baby 9.5mm Film Holder for Plustek OpticFilm Scanner

Rescue your family film history before it's lost forever! This custom-designed film holder lets you digitise your precious Pathé Baby 9.5mm films using a standard Plustek OpticFilm scanner – with accurate frame alignment and gentle film handling.

The Problem

Pathé Baby 9.5mm film is a unique vintage format from the 1920s–1960s with a centre perforation between frames – completely different from standard 8mm or 16mm film. No commercial scanner holder exists for this format, making digitisation nearly impossible without a custom solution.

Features

  • Precisely engineered for the 9.5mm Pathé Baby film format
  • Centre perforation alignment – holds the film correctly in the unique Pathé sprocket geometry
  • Frame dimensions respected: 8.5 × 6.5 mm image area, 9.5 mm total film width, 7.54 mm frame pitch
  • Two-part design – base tray with sprocket guides and a top press plate to keep the film flat
  • Fits the Plustek OpticFilm scanner film holder slot
  • Allows scanning of multiple frames per pass
  • Gentle on fragile, aged film stock

Film Format Specifications

  • Total film width: 9.5 mm
  • Frame size: 8.5 × 6.5 mm
  • Perforation: Centre, single hole between frames
  • Frame pitch: 7.54 mm
  • Perforation width: 2.0–2.4 mm

Print Settings

  • Material: recommend ABS or stronger, due to heat in scanner
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm (fine detail recommended for sprocket accuracy)
  • Walls: 2 perimeters
  • Infill: 30%
  • Supports: Not required

Recommended Workflow

  1. Load the 9.5mm film strip into the base tray, aligning the centre perforations with the guide pins
  2. Place the press plate on top to keep the film flat
  3. Insert the holder into the Plustek OpticFilm scanner
  4. Scan at 3600–7200 dpi for best results
  5. Use your preferred software to crop and process individual frames

If this helped you rescue your Pathé Baby reels, I'd love to see your scans in the comments!
