Description
ROCKY
I put this together because I couldn't find a model of Rocky that actually matched his movie counterpart.
I wanted him to look heavy, blunt, and properly stony. I sculpted the rock fractures pretty deep into the carapace specifically because it makes painting incredibly easy, if you slap a wash or a heavy dry-brush on this, the texture does all the work for you.
Printing Tips
- Layer height: 0.12mm–0.16mm keeps the stone cracks sharp.
- Supports: Definitely use tree supports under the central body. They cradle the belly nicely and pop right off the textured underside without leaving ugly marks.
- Walls: Go with 3 walls minimum so the leg joints are solid.
- Infill: 12% gyroid is plenty.
Quick Paint Setup
To get a nice weathered, rocky look:
- Prime it black or dark grey.
- Do a heavy dry-brush all over with a medium brown or earthy tan.
- Do a super light dry-brush with a light cream or off-white just on the highest edges to make the texture pop.
- For extra pop you can darken the crevices with a sharp black.
If you print one, toss a photo in the makes! I'd love to see how he looks in different filaments—a marble, matte grey, or dark stone PLA would probably look great raw.
