OrcaFlow Variable Depth Dip Dish

Inspired by the flowing form of an orca whale, this Variable Depth Olive Oil & Balsamic Dip Dish combines sculptural design with functional fluid behavior to create a unique serving experience. The whale silhouette was carefully shaped to create smooth flow transitions and visually dynamic liquid distribution across the surface. The smaller fish-shaped cavity can also be used separately for concentrated sauce portions such as soy sauce, ponzu, or sushi dipping sauces, adding additional functionality for serving appetizers and sushi dishes.

If this design made you pause for a second and wonder, “How does the liquid flow like that?” - consider giving it a Boost. Every Boost helps support more engineering-inspired functional designs like this one.

WHY THIS WORKS? : The geometry was designed using basic fluid statics and surface flow behavior principles. The varying cavity depth alters the local fluid thickness and flow resistance, causing liquids with different viscosities and densities to distribute differently across the surface. Olive oil, having lower density and viscosity, spreads more rapidly across shallow regions, while balsamic vinegar tends to remain concentrated within deeper sections due to its comparatively higher density and resistance to flow. This passive fluid separation creates controlled mixing gradients and visually distinct flow patterns without requiring any physical divider.

Perfect for dinner parties, charcuterie boards, sushi nights, restaurants, or everyday kitchen use.

Dimensions:

  • Diameter: 6 inches
