Filament Spool Respooler (Fast Print, High Strength)

This is a compact, robust, and efficient manual filament respooler designed to easily transfer filament from one spool to another (perfect for switching from cardboard to plastic spools or splitting large rolls).

It is optimized for quick printing and structural strength, requiring only around 360g of filament in total.

✨ Key Features

  • Full Compatibility: All parts are fully backward compatible with my previous respooler designs.
  • Material efficient: Only needs ~360g of filament.
  • Fast & Easy assembly: Print, snap together, and start respooling.
  • No extra hardware: 100% printed components.

🛠️ Print Settings & Recommendations

  • Material: * Ideal: Print the entire model in PETG or ASA for maximum durability and strength.
    • Hybrid Option: If you want to save material, the main frame can be printed in PLA. However, it is highly recommended to use PETG or ASA at least for the axles (spindles) and the crank handle to handle the mechanical stress.
  • Infill: 10% Gyroid is more than enough for great structural integrity.
  • Supports: Only required for the crank handle. Everything else prints completely support-free.

This is a super helpful print. it worked very well when one of my spools broke. The only thing I would change is I would make one end higher to accommodate spools with larger centers. The spool that we were transferring from had a large opening and would drag and catch on the lower bar, but we still made it work. It’s not an issue with most of our spools, so this will still be super helpful again in the future.

Very good to print. I was also able to rewind the first roll without any problems. What might also be useful is a guide that winds the filament evenly onto the new spool. Boost is out ;-)

I really like this design, works well but I'd recommend printing the shaft connecting the handle at 100%. The original worked for 2 spool windings and snapped right off. Since reprinting at 100%, works like a charm.

If I may offer a suggestion, adding a filament guide between the two spools, perhaps an arm with an eyelet, would be ideal

You're not doing anything wrong. One is just an extra, just in case.
