As a huge X-Files fan growing up, I always wanted to recreate the alien hybrid fetus specimen from some of the classic episodes. Since I’m also a filmmaker working on sci-fi short films, I finally decided to build one as a practical prop for my own production.

The original prop for my short film is actually MUCH larger, but I really loved how creepy and atmospheric this smaller version turned out, so I decided to share it with the community in case anyone wants to use it for movie props, horror displays, escape rooms, studio decorations, or sci-fi setups.

Lighting & Effects

To create the glowing laboratory effect, I used a Bambu Lab LED light mounted underneath the jar with a small stand. It gives the specimen that eerie containment chamber look, especially in dark rooms.

For the liquid coloring, I used green-yellow powder pigment diluted with water to create the radioactive preservation effect.

Lid Experimentation

I experimented with at least 3 different lid styles during development because my original film prop was designed at a much larger scale. This ended up being my favorite lid design:
