Description
Camera Cage for Blackmagic Design Studio Camera 4k Pro
current version v3.0
!not suitable for the BMD Studio Camera 6k!
tested on the BMD Studio Camera 4k Pro
Since the BMD Studio Camera series offers no possibilities for mounting additional equipment and no truly adequate industrial solution exists, unlike for other camera rigs, a custom cage was needed.
-
The base cage has a group of three ¼" camera threads on both sides, arranged top and bottom. The two outer ones are perfect for centrally mounting a NATO rail, such as the one that comes with the DJI Focus Pro and is also shown in the picture. The two outer threads on the top are intended for mounting the Halo. On all three surfaces, there is also a central ¼" thread, with the option to install a positioning screw in two directions, similar to what is known from Smallrig's Magic Arms.
-
The Halo largely encloses and covers the Tally Light. For this, a Tally Light system from, for example, Hollyland, as shown in the photo, can be used via the 90° cold shoe. The principle of screw options is the same as on the base cage: a central ¼" thread with the possibility of using a positioning screw, surrounded by additional screw points.
-
If you want to play back the program image, you can attach the monitor bridge with the previously mounted monitor. The monitor mount is designed so that the Lilliput H7 HD shown in the picture can be attached. The bridge is equipped with suitable lugs so that the monitor does not twist, and the USB port and HDMI-OUT are also covered.
Assembly:
Depending on the material used, the effort in post-processing and soldering the threads is naturally higher.
It is recommended to re-drill all holes to the size specified by the thread manufacturer, especially when printing with PA6-CF.
Materials Used:
- ruthex 1/4" SHORT threaded insert camera thread inch (UNC)
- ruthex HSS drill bit set for threaded inserts (8mm)
- Socket head cap screw hex ¼-20x1/2"
- Socket head cap screw hex ¼-20x1" 2pcs.
(Caution! Metric hex keys do not fit imperial screws; at least not with my screws)
